Our Verdict

The Specialized Torch 3.0 shoes offer near-flagship performance at a more reasonable price. They feature a stiff carbon sole, comfortable fit, and sleek looks. However, the absence of adjustable cleat bolt holes and a relatively high weight hold them back slightly.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros: Stiff carbon sole, comfortable fit, sleek appearance
  • Cons: No adjustable cleat holes, relatively heavy for the price point

Shoe Design and Construction

The Torch 3.0 gets a revamped last with a wider forefoot, inspired by over 100,000 foot scans from Specialized’s Rëtul fit data. Its seamless TPU upper, twin Boa Li2 dials, and full carbon sole give it a premium feel despite its mid-range price.

Specialized chose not to rate the stiffness numerically, instead describing it as “stiff, yet light.” The shoes also feature toe and heel bumpers for protection, although they aren’t replaceable.

Weight and Fit

Weighing in at 337g per shoe (EU45), the Torch 3.0s are heavier than comparable models from Trek, Shimano, and Van Rysel. However, the wider last and dual Boa closure system make for a comfortable and secure fit out of the box. Four color options are available to suit various style preferences.

Performance on the Road

On-bike performance is solid, with the carbon soles providing plenty of stiffness for fast riding. The wide forefoot and dial system ensure a firm hold without pressure points. The only downside for some riders may be the fixed cleat bolt holes, which limit cleat positioning flexibility.

Ventilation is decent, with perforated uppers aiding breathability, though not on par with top-tier models like the S-Works Torch.

Bottom Line

The Torch 3.0 is an excellent all-round road cycling shoe for riders seeking high performance without paying flagship prices. Provided your cleat setup works with the fixed bolt holes, this shoe delivers on fit, power transfer, and comfort.
